I bought IH's N1 last year and its hands down the best winter jacket I've owned. That said, I think you could argue that their A2 is much more versatile with the cut and how it isn't "too" warm. Really wanting to get an A2 this year, or as an alternative I would order one of Real McCoy's CWU-7P jackets. Its a repro thats generally pretty rare, and I don't really have any cropped jackets. Looks pretty sick if you ask me

Haven't seen one in black. Non stock (bronson sub-brand) has a navy one that has a 50% wool lining for around 90 euro/dollars on Alie (before taxes)

Just buy a used high end one or save up (ideally for a vintage one)
