Got some new jeans and they're being dye all over my sneakers. Not complaining, I think it looks kind of cool, and I can always just wash it off. At what point do new jeans usually stop bleeding?

same i love how denim crocking looks on some shoes. suckers pay $600 for golden goose sneakers with imitation crocking, so we're not crazy. it can look really cool to intentionally let your jeans bleed all over white, ecru or some light color canvas sneakers. especially on more long lasting ones where the upper will get a chance to age.
>At what point do new jeans usually stop bleeding?
depends so much on the fabric, and how much it rains and how humid it is where you live. sometimes a couple weeks sometimes a couple months sometimes several washes. rinsing your jeans can reduce it without many downsides.

theres better for the price. the current year 501 cut sucks for a variety of reasons. some of the cuts like the 93 501 are better.
you can get better jeans elsewhere for the price or even just go on ebay/etsy/thrift sites and get 1970s to 1990s era vintage levi's for about the same price as levi's.
if your inseam is like 32 or shorter just get red tornado ww2/55501's. they cost the same as the cheap levi's if you wait for an aliexpress sale and they are nicer than their lvc counterparts by quite a bit.

autism option:
if you have some time to lurk ebay and shit, learn a little about dating vintage levi's and snag a pair from the first few years of when they switched from big E to small e. the fit was still pretty good and the fabric quality is more akin to the 60s era vintage jeans. with some free time and luck you can snag a pair no one bids on for less than levis at the mall cost.
Anonymous 01/18/25(Sat)18:23:55 No.18370450
good strategy for budget _vintage_ type 3 jackets too. they still fit like the 60s jackets in the early 70s and had nice fabric. easiest way to date those is look at the vertical stitch at the bottom center of the jacket by the button. single stitch = 71-72, double stitch = 73 on to somewhere in the 80s. tons of resellers list the single stitch ones without knowing what they are & auctions can be won super low.
Anonymous 01/18/25(Sat)18:29:46 No.18370455
the 1970s levi's sherpa truckers also get listed for way under value commonly and there's a lot of dead stock looking ones out there. going rate for dead stock looking ones is $200 but they can be sniped $20-50 without much effort. retardedly good deal for anons who want a warm nice looking jacket. generous fit that lets you layer. lean towards sizing big. synthetic liner but warm, and you can wash it.

fuck 1 thing i forgot. with vintage levi's jackets always check WOMEN'S listings. a lot of resellers see the shorter length -> tag is unreadable -> listed as women's -> no one bids/buys it -> insane dealz. this happens a lot with sz40 and lower jackets especially.

belts stay better if you don't have a gut (a bit of belly's fine) wear high rise, and wear the belt above not on your hips. with a little planning you can size your belts to be appropriate length worn both ways.
i agree with you on suspenders. taking style out of the equation and thinking from a strictly autistic function > * perspective, going from things like suspenders with sartorial waistbands to belts was a downgrade. suspenders let you wear looser fit pants and essentially up-size them a lot more than you can with a belt, without it looking odd when worn. they fell out of favor as guys started favoring slimmer fits that just didn't necessitate it, and grew used to the utility of having a thing around their waist that can support weight. obvious advantages for tradies, people who carry firearms etc.

They are great entry level for jap repro denim. Good value for sure, but there are other brands with nicer features, details, and slightly more interesting denim. Fullcount is known for being the zimbabwean cotton denim company, so all their denim arguably gets more soft than any other company without sacrificing any durability. Freewheelers probably has the nicest build quality out of all other repros with the addition of cool nifty features like anti rust buttons, rounded rivets. Their thread is also known to generally last longer and be more fray resistant compared to other repro brands, and their denim is very interesting with the addition of small vertical slub threads. You can buy these jeans from Japan for $200-250 instead of paying $300-450 in the US. Also, comparing TCB to samurai is fucking retarded and shows you know literally nothing. They are completely different beasts.

assuming you aren’t a troll:
>most jap selvedge is one-washed, meaning that the overwhelming majority of the shrink is taken out. If you cold wash and hang dry (which should be done for all your cotton pieces of clothing), you should experience an unnoticeable amount of shrinkage which ends up just stretching back out to normal with a day of wear
>some brands sanforize their denim which removes any risk of shrinkage. The most known jap selvedge brand to do this is iron heart
>yes, indigo dye on a new pair of jeans will stain white t shirts and any light colored furniture. Not really a big deal in my opinion since I use oxyclean on all my whites and they remain vibrant
>you end up just getting a much more interesting pair of jeans with more character. Fading the denim yourself is part of what gives them more life compared to a pair of mall jeans

the way modern fashion brands do it with pre-washed/distressed jeans is they skew the pattern of the jeans. then then they fully shrink the fabric during the washing/distressing process. pattern making software can do the skew for you but it takes trial and error to know exactly how much to skew each fabric. its mostly a mass production thing.
most diy jeans i see you just forego all that and make them a little big then deal with any leg twist. sanforized denim or pre shrinking your denim before sewing can help too, but may affect final look.

in the opposite direction of the shrinkage, based on what twill pattern it uses.
basically you just know the jeans are going to shrink and twist so you pattern them to have opposite twist in them -> shrink them.

Bathroom 634 anon here.

Loose repro cuts really are the final redpill for lifters. Depending on glycogen stores and pump I can fluctuate as much as 5lbs in a 24 hour period, which makes anything too fitted a constant struggle of staying just lean enough to fit, but not so lean that they become too loose.

I'm going into a mini bulk right now and just 3 days in I'm seeing there's no way I can keep wearing my 634s. Switching primarily to my Samurai S3000 and ordered a pair of Oni 200zrbk to have a black denim in a similar loose cut.

I'm also looking at Freewheelers based on shirtless gym anon's recommendations but idk if they're different enough from SC1947s to justify the purchase.

They're both good budget jeans provided you stick to the mainline 100% cotton offerings. Wrangler has better classic cuts since the 13mwz and derivatives are basically 1940s repros, but Lee does a really nice regular fit jean if you want something more modern.

I can do either 634 or 888 but ONLY when I'm both cutting and neglecting glutes. The smallest my thighs get is 24" and my waist bottoms out around 31", so I need to upsize 2 or 3 in either cut by default. I'll buy the 1955 this coming restock though I'm a little worried a nearly 13" front rise may be too tall for my 5'9 manlet self.

I went against the advice here and got myself a pair of Iron Hearts 634 xhs in 25oz. Reason being that someone was selling a barely worn pair at a very good price. I've never owned IRs nor seen them in person before.
They're heavy and thick, like wearing a weighted blanket around your legs. I'm not impressed with the cut. Legs are OK but the rise could do with an inch or two of extra length, moreso considering that even with a belt, jeans this heavy will tend to sag at least a bit. Roomy enough for my ass and thighs, but not very shapely. Nice details and super stitching, these are built like tanks. Perhaos in 17 or 21oz they would look better. Definitely 25oz is a meme, unless you live close to the polar circle or you're a welder by trade.
Overall, I don't regret getting them and will wear them for the remainder of the winter, but not really impressed with Iron Heart. Wouldn't pay 300-400 for them. Starting to think that this high-end denim thing is a meme.

The Freewheelers 1947 differs slightly from the Sugarcanes with it having a slightly higher rise, slightly raised back pockets, and slightly more taper. Been taking a break from my Fullcount 0105 and wearing these instead this past week and can honestly say these could be considered the platonic ideal of a pair of 501s. A lot of people say that 1947 was the year that Levi’s really locked into something special, and I can see what they mean when I wear these. It’s a high rise, but the yoke is angled hard and the back pockets are raised high enough that even if you wanted to slouch them below your hip shelf they still look really great. I have long legs, so slouching them balances my proportions and is most comfortable for me. Flawless leg mobility. These slight adjustments in rise, back pocket position, and taper make them a better pair compared to the Sugarcanes. That said, I love a more “wide from top down” repro and there is therefore nothing wrong with the sugarcanes. However, literally everything about these jeans are perfect and refined to a higher degree. $250 if you purchase from Speedway Sendai or some other retailer off Rakuten. My only complaint is that I wish they made more with 34” inseams, but its not a dealbreaker for me

The sagging SC back pockets do annoy me. I have to wear them basically on my hips to avoid crotch bunching and at that point the pockets aren't doing my ass any favors.

How does the sizing compare to your S3000? I'm a 32 in Sammies and eyeing a 32 in the Freewheelers also.

Yeah, the backside of the SC is not as sexo. At least for me, they just don’t have much shape to them and end up being too baggy. The ass on the Freewheelers is SEXO, honestly quite similar to 13mwz, but not quite as tight or slim. If you like your size in the s3000, order the same size in the 1947. I have size 34 in both. The thigh widths are quite similar, with the levels of taper and rise differing between the two cuts

If weight fluctuation is a hurdle for you, then a cinch back would probably be your best option, I know Freewheelers has one if you really like their denim and details. However, if you end up getting a pair that ends up being slightly big on you one day due to losing weight, I would argue that slightly oversized jeans can look really awesome as long as you’re able to use a belt. It’s pretty much what the repro autists in Japan have been doing for decades to get that awesome relaxed drape. Im biased and will tell you to get the 1947 for how universal and platonic the cut is. They’re relaxed, but not too wide. If you lose weight, cinch a belt and enjoy your sick looking vintage drape

yes in practice, no in theory.
there's stuff you can do on a shuttle loom that you can't on a projectile loom. these things have more of a subjective 'apples orange' difference than an objective one.
you can set up a projectile loom to make really nice denim but in the real world 99%+ are set up for speed and unit cost not quality. they used to make more high end non selvedge denim in the 70s-00s. most of it is luxurious denim with uber soft handfeel, not rugged strong denim.

One more cut to put on your radar anon- Japan Blue loose fit (the black ones are J516 or J514 iirc). They're not anything special denimwise, but they're a very repro-esque cut with a 13" front rise, 13.5" thighs, and a leg opening around 8.5" that (imo) wears a little wider because the taper is right at the bottom. And all that at tag 31. Also a zip fly if you're into that. I sized them tight when I first got them which led to some wonkiness with the drape, but once I lost a bit of weight and slouched them a tiny bit (still above the hip shelf), they fall really nicely. They're also usually <150 from nipland.

NTA but you get Sugarcanes dirt cheap that way when you compare to US/Euro prices.

If you're trying to buy any Japanese denim, buy from Japanese stores like Hinoya, Celluloid 1984, Bears, Rodeo, Okayama, Takeoff, etc. The prices will be significantly cheaper, you'll have models that don't get sold outside of Japan, shipping is fast as fuck, etc.
You can even work around retard jap brands that won't sell Ironheart at Japanese prices to non japs if you go through a proxy.

This is true for most brands btw, it's normally cheaper to buy them in the country they're made in and have them shipped. Indigofera is an example, they're cheaper at stores like Second Sunrise when compared to US stores.

To me this is perfection. Perfection of the garment and of the cut. However I absolutely can not stand the Levi's-mimicking red flap, the white label below the patch, and the fact that the construction's thread is cotton (= short life). These three things alone are enough to keep me from spending 200+ on these Warehouse. Can someone point me to an almost identical model without the three autistic flaws that totally kill the jeans for me?

I've been wearing the 634 in 25oz for a few days straight and tgey're slowly growing on me. Got accustomed to the retardedly thick fabric and weight sooner than expected. Perhaps the relatively short rise ain't that bad. I guess I'd feel like I'm wearing an orthopedic belt if it were a high rise. Not gonna be my favourite jeans anytime soon, but I can see them as the goto jeans for the coldest days of winter.

just do whatever looks the best. how your jeans sit on different shoes/boots will affect the leg drape and how the whole thing looks. unless you wear all the same footwear all the time if you want to look good with all of your stuff the obvious answer is: sometimes you uncuff, sometimes you single cuff, sometimes you double cuff. getting the right hem length is the hard part, as it shrinks long term.

Alright. Not used to 34" (I'm 183cm/6'0") so these feel very long.

I wish I could justify thicker denim. I already have some winter pants that I never wear because winter is very mild here. Maybe as an investment before traveling to the Nordics...

These ones. As I said last thread, these were on sale for 26 euro a pair and are Italian made with Candiani denim, so ended buying my first Zara item in 20 years. I only wear jeans with a wash nowadays, and these have a subtle wash, are very thick and the cut is a bit looser than 13mwz on the thigh and fit me more comfortably.

went up to a 34 from a 32 levis 501 size, fit almost the same, a bit more snug but I prefer not wearing a belt. mid to high rise, they reach my navel if I pull them all the way up and sit on the waist, I prefer pulling them down a bit though for more comfort while sitting. Didn't shrink at all in the wash since they are pre-shrunk.

Leather jackets, m65 jackets, corduroy trucker sherpa jackets... basically any non-denim jacket. I love denim and do double denim quite a lot, but triple is just too much for me. Never could make it work.

As far as I can tell Viapiana is on hiatus as he switches from made to order to ready to wear. I would suggest Ciano Farmer Denim as a choice as well, I talked to him on the phone yesterday about my order and he said he is also switching from MTO to mostly RTW although returning customers will still have access to MTO. So your first piece will have to be RTW but after that you can order from the full MTO catalog. A little confusing but if it helps him keep the business going I understand.

even though brycelands switched to rtw and viapiana is, rtw from the guys who actually tailor is gonna be a step above rtw from the brands who don't have that experience. they're just gonna know how to pattern for the average guy more than brands focused on their fabrics will.
i wonder if ciano's the only one left doing bespoke western shirts, or even high end denim shirts in general.

I 100% agree with you, Ciano was telling me over the phone he's having an extremely hard time hiring staff who actually know how to build these clothes so he ends up doing most of the manufacturing himself. I see why he'd want to transition to just busting out 10 pairs of the same chinos in the time it takes him to make 2 custom chino orders.

I ordered this back in September, spec'd it for a corduroy collar too. I'll take a bunch of detail shots and post in whatever thread is up at the time I get it.
