Today I'm going to get loads of samples from Nasomatto, I haven't tried any of frags from this house (pricey) but I just got a great deal. I tried Boccanera from the same perfumer (owner of both houses?) and unfortunately it was disgusting, owerpowering chocolate pudding with chilli. I hope black afgano will change my view.

fast forward, Black Afgano is mid at best, just ambery woody frag with some synthetic oud, no cannabis and no resin, i like Pardon, it opens with garlic and burnt rubber but evolves into unique wet woody scent. Blamage is very similar to CdG 2 but has no spices, i was hoping some brich tar but I'm happy with CdG 2 clone. Also Absint is alright, herbal-piney mix, no absint found. I also tried Baraonda (glazed donut with rose jam) , Sadonaso (no animals, just coffee and some sweet undertones), Duro (smells like vitamin drink) and Fantomas (a little bit plasticy, synthetic oud and patchouli)

Sycomore is a lot drier, and has a hint of background spice, while EN is more camphoraceous from the cypress. They both end up swampy in the end, but the Chanel is a little cleaner/grassier. I still would prefer any version of Terre, Mr. Vetiver or Guerlain's Vetiver to either of those two.

I've tried a few, my impression about them are:
>Irish Leather
Smells nothing like the original Irish Leather, it's a shame but there's no way around it.
>Mystic Incense
Smells quite different from the original Mystic Incense, there only incense in there is labdanum but it's drowned in vanilla and there's no smoke at all, it's a sweet enough vanillic "amber" gourmand.
>Viking
I've had this on for two hours or so and it smells the same as Creed's, it has that nice green slightly juicy opening that moves on to more spice and soft wood.
It also has the same modest projection of the original, and I can only imagine it will dry down to being slightly drier and less herbal just the same way.
>Sauvage
I prefer this to Sauvage EDT in some ways, in the beginning it's less about citrus and more about fresh herbaceous notes, though it also has more of that abroxan-heavy 12-in-1 shower gel accord for its whole life.
It dries down to being more or less like the original but less woody (and more shower gel again), and in the end only the shower gel and some citrus remains.
Overall it's not BAD if you don't enjoy the woody side of Sauvage, but it's definitely not as good as the original, and it's even less wearable than the original in 2024.
>Cocaine
I haven't smelled the original, though this replica is a good fragrance no matter how you look at it, a tuberose + jasmine bomb, a bit unbalanced in favor of tuberose, dense, very very creamy, slightly airy from the jasmine, very slightly indolic, with maybe a touch of added caramel in the beginning and patchouli towards the end, but overall very thick flowers dominate.
I get the impression from reviews about the original that this replica is more "pure", less dirty, camphorous and bitter, though imo it's a great scent in its own right.
It also has nuclear performances, check it out if you like white flowers.

Do you guys simply pick fragrances that you like or do you pick ones based on need?

I've started expanding out my collection, but it's mostly ended up being either really rich cold weather/date night stuff or stuff from the past.
When I go out or go to work, I usually just end up reaching for a bottle of Luna Rossa Carbon someone gifted me, since it's the most 'normal smelling' thing.

In that order - I buy stuff that I like and pick one from my collection for the occasion. I actually found myself in the same situation you described, now I try to expand in the spring summer/freshie direction. Two I'm considering are

For me, cool weather is:
Casual: Caron Pour Un Homme
Night: YSL Tuxedo
Day: Chanel Platinum Egoiste

Warm weather is
Casual: Guerlain Cologne du Parfumeur
Day: Bulgari Aqua Amara
Night: Hermes Terre d'Hermes Eau Givree

Warm weather is definitely harder to separate. I like to have my most casual fragrances be simple eau de colognes or sport flankers. Light, citrusy, and impossible to overspray.
For daytime/office wear, I still like them to be lighter and citrusy but now I can start adding some woody notes. Blue shower gel fragrances are also good here, even though they're very common, as long as they don't lean too much toward sweetness.
Then at night, I can start adding in some stronger green notes and herbs that would be a little cloying during the height of the day. Aventus-style fragrances are great here too.

I recommend sampling it first. It is has a very juniper-heavy opening. Literally smells like gin the first few seconds. It is supposed to have vanilla and cinnamon in it, but I don't smell it. It also has iris and neroli, but it is incredibly masculine. It is peppery and has vetiver. It has some similarity to Bois Imperiale, they don't smell similar, but a similar "feel" a little bit green and spicy.

Caron Yuzu Man is basically the same idea as L'eau d'Issey but the citrus is toned way down. The sharpness of the yuzu is sanded down with lemon verbena. It settles down into a nice cedar with some laundry musk.

FWIW, though, it is not a strong scent.

Kouros has been absolutely castrated. I've smelled 80s Kouros. Today's Kouros is just a fine barbershop fougere with a little incense and honey. Perfectly safe for the office. The only way you're knocking anyone out with it is if you obnoxiously overspray.

Blurred Channel is fine. Why the EdP instead of the EdT? I prefer the EdT personally. But it's just about the safest choice possible.

>Night or special occasion: Azzaro the most wanted parfum or Afnan 9pm?
Afnan 9pm is gross. It's just a more artificial-smelling version of Ultra Male, which is already a bubblegum mess.
The Azzaro is fine. It's a very sweet vanilla, but it's well done.

I assume you're a pretty young guy (early 20s) because both your night fragrances would be inappropriate on an older man.

>Thoughts on Tauer?
Good quality. Creative and interesting compositions, but also, wildly overhyped. The way people talk about Andy Tauer is if he's the second coming of Jacques Guerlain.
>And he's entirely self-taught!!!

L'Air du Desert Marocain is his famous one. It's a very dry, very sheer amber and one of the only fragrances with a cumin note that doesn't smell like body odor. Some people say it smells hot and dusty.

Au Coeur du DĂ©sert is pretty bad, in my opinion. It takes the above and makes it richer and sweeter, but that also makes it cloying to wear and now the cumin smells like armpit

L'Air Des Alpes Suisses is nice, but it's pretty straightforward. Evergreens and dryer sheets.

Sundowner is very sweet but not cloying. The cinnamon note in the opening is very dry. I like it but I would not wear it if the temperature were above freezing.

Try Lonestar Memories, an earthy leather, and Heraud, a woody sparkling cocoa.

However good summer scents are "A'mmare" (green herbal and woody aquatic) and "Mediterraneo" (super citrus, but good if you want to give citrua another try) both by Carthusia. I just found pic related 50ml box (unopened).
What should I do with it? I like the scent but frankly it does not really qualify as unisex (I am a man btw),

All my scents have poor longevity. What’s a sub $100 scent that’ll last all day? Something fresh would be ideal.

>All my scents have poor longevity.
Your scents probably have fine longevity. You're just going nose-blind to them. Any scent you can smell on yourself after an entire day will be choking everyone else out.
Your best bet is to ask someone else at the end of the day if they can smell what you're wearing. Often times the answer will be
>Oh, yeah, I could smell the second you walked into the room.
even though you can't smell anything.

>sub $100 ... Something fresh would be ideal.
Prada Luna Rossa. (the original, not any of the flankers) Long-lasting. Smells like an expensive soap.

BdC for daytime is great, as anon mentioned.
For nights out, there's no need to overthink it, just go for the classics: PdM Layton or YSL La Nuit de L'Homme.

I know those are obvious, bordering on basic-as-fuck, but since you're just starting out, those two will give you a reliable, year-round base to build off.

Lavender is not the strongest note in there at all. There is a shitton of tonka bean, maybe you don't like tonka bombs.

They are, Blue Jeans just gets sold at discounters and downmarket stores now, it's not in your Sephoras. It was even briefly under the diffusion brand Versus Versace.

I think Blue Jeans is still really nice. Performance is fairly weak nowadays though, but if you want something like a more citrusy warm weather cousin to le male, it's a nice one.

Eau des Baux is one of the in that style, but it's honestly a little boring because it's so linear. Probably won't repurchase.

Yes, in the sense that they have the same name and one would thus assume they're similar in scent, but turn out to smell completely different from one another.

That said, Eau Sauvage Parfum is still informed by the historic character of the original Eau Sauvage and its intend. It's a fresh, aromatic, green fragrance for the 2010s like the original Eau Sauvage was a fresh, aromatic, green fragrance for the 1960s.

Encre Noire Sport is safe IMO if you like stuff like grey vetiver. The safest out of the line. I bought my dad a bottle and he's gone through 3 of them already. Smells great, only downside is weak performance.

This line is extremely confusing and Dior just made it even more confusing by remaking the parfum. Anyway the ones available right now:

>Dior Homme Original
The OG one. Pretty great if you like iris. Great balance of cacao, vanilla and that powdery iris with fresher, more masculine notes to make it wearable in most weather. Ends up being classy for a gourmand.

>Dior Homme Intense
Like the original but sweeter, denser, stronger, less fresh. I somewhat prefer the original, but this is nice too.

>Dior Homme Parfum up to 2025
Similar but even stronger and much more leathery and smoky + with some added rose oud elements.

>Dior Homme Parfum 2025
New version, supposedly much changed, supposedly for the worse / more cheapened or mass market direction

>Dior Homme 2020
Reboot of the line with a totally new DNA. No iris, vanilla or chocolate, just a very buttoned up citrus and woody thing. Decent but a bit boring.

>Dior Homme Sport
Like 2020, but more fun with a really zingy aldehydic citrus opening and a lot of incense added.
