Rich people wear whatever. Only poorfags predominantly buy luxury brands and even go into debt, all in order to appear rich. Meanwhile rich people have nothing to prove. People around them already know they are rich.

>Only poorfags predominantly buy luxury brands and even go into debt
Most luxury stuff is bought by rich chinese and arabs, not 'poorfags' lmao.
>Meanwhile rich people have nothing to prove.
I mean this is objectively incorrect, rich people have historically always flaunted their wealth. Hell, aristocracy in Europe did nothing all day but party and wear eccentric elaborate clothes. This is not exclusive to Europe either, in every continent the rich have always flaunted their wealth, it is only extremely recently after the 18th century that the rich have acquired a more moderate attitude about it.
I work at a place where I see lots of millionaires. It's mostly boomers, some chinese and arabs visitors, politicians, etc and it's funny because they actually do wear Polo Ralph Lauren and Boss and their female companions, some of them are obviously their wives (some aren't) do wear designer stuff, like Chanel bags, Hermes Birkins, Lobutin heels, etc. Rich foreigners also flex their wealth a lot.
Dressing like a poorfag while being rich is only an Anglo thing, mostly American, nobody else does it really. I think the real poorfag brands are stuff like Loro piana but who knows.
People tend to project virtue into rich people, like inherent taste or grace to them but they are mostly just regular people with money and are prone to the same mistakes and lack of taste.
This being said if you are being mocked for 'wasting money' for wearing ralph lauren stuff which isn't even expensive maybe you need to get a new social circle

>spend thousands of dollars a piece
Yes, I know it's hard to imagine but once your net worth has enough zeroes in it a thousand dollars stops being a significant amount of money.
>spending the time to have their measurements taken and have something they don't care about custom made
It takes a lot less time to have someone come to your house and take your measurements once then deliver you a full wardrobe of perfectly fitting clothes so that you don't have to think about clothes anymore, than it does having to try clothes on until you find the right fit. I don't know where people got the idea that "real" rich people buy whatever's on clearance at H&M but that has never been true. Those t-shirts Zuckerberg used to wear? Brunello Cucinelli. Steve Job's turtlenecks? Personally designed for him by Issey Miyake. Even the rich people that look like they "don't care" spent a significant amount of money (for you) on their look.

>Unless you're gonna move goalposts and say that you're only rich if you're a billionaire.
That's a whole other debate, it used to be that a million dollars was rich but nowadays houses that used to be middle class cost $500k so who knows anymore. Usually when people imagine being rich the first thing that comes to mind is access to lavish, luxurious lifestyles where money is no longer a factor. Owning a yatch, a Ferrari, a private jet, stuff like that. Or having enough money to buy time, like having others cook and clean for you instead of spending time doing it yourself. Either way, someone at that level isn't going to shop at Ralph Lauren because Loro Piana is too expensive.
>>18358663
This whole discussion has been going on since way before whoever it was came up with the term "quiet luxury". Allegedly, only poor people spend a meaningful amount of money on clothes and rich people are rich because they're stingy with their money a la Scrooge McDuck, and stuff like Mark Zuckerberg's old fit used to be brought up as an example because people assumed a plain t-shirt would cost like $15 at most when it turns out those were made to measure and $300 each. It's a stupid argument regardless, wearing cheap clothes isn't gonna make you a rich person and wearing expensive (or Ralph Lauren "expensive") clothes isn't gonna get you mistaken for one.

Everyone who worked there ended up becoming successful because of the social skills they gained from working with females and dealing with customers and because they were working fast they became highly competent people. I always thought I was above working there. :'(
I still do, I'll never be one of those 30 year olds that works there. Too embarrassing.

Those in upper-middle-class or affluent circles are likely to find camaraderie with others who share their shopping habits and style.
For someone who grew up in affluent circles, purchasing an item like a Ralph Lauren Purple Label OCBD or a Hermès belt is natural.
Someone with a higher income doesn't view spending a few hundred dollars as a significant expense; they might spend that amount on something as trivial as a meal. For them, spending that amount is practically routine - just as spending $16.80 for someone earning $56,000 isn’t considered a big deal, but rather normal.
You also need to consider the cost per wear. Clothing from Target often falls apart after a few washes, while I have OCBDs from Brooks Brothers that are over 40 years old and still look brand new.
Does it make more sense to spend $100 on a shirt you'll wear for 40 years, or $30 on a shirt that will be riddled with holes in less than 6 months?
Brands like Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, and other "classic" labels often resonate more with upper-middle-class and affluent individuals than with those who seek to project wealth. Items from these brands are discreet, often mistaken for less expensive alternatives, and are also durable and easy to return.
The idea that "upper-middle-class or affluent people do not wear these things" is a misconception commonly held by frugal blue-collar individuals who idolize Warren Buffet, a man who wears bespoke clothing made by Ascot Chang.
>>18358712
This image is hilarious. The outfits worn by the "rich" consist of cashmere sweaters, flannel trousers, and shoes costing well over $300, yet this person believes these items are priced between $12 and $30.
You can visit areas where the wealthiest people on the planet reside and observe that nearly everyone is wearing Lacoste, Brooks Brothers, khaki trousers, and leather shoes.
There is an expectation to dress appropriately for the environment you're in. If you do not, you will not be treated well.

People who assert that those in the affluent socioeconomic bracket do not wear these brands often come from a working-class background, where people wear Air Jordans, Champion branded sweat suits and designer jeans.

I wear Ralph Lauren for chinos because they are comfortable and have nice pockets. I also like their merino wool turtlenecks and their Purple Label selection at times.
I have items that don't get compliments from Saks that cost 500+ and items from Banana Republics clearance rack that get them every time.
If you care more about logo's and cost then taste and presentation, you are no better then anyone else wearing converse and a champion hoodie in their 30's.

Larp stops being larp if you are just dressing how you want to dress. Using clothing as a language is one thing, using it as a hobby is another. It doesn't always have to be serious.

Acne Studios and Ami Paris have a lot of logoslop which is the antithesis of quiet luxury. I feel like Our Legacy and Cole Buxton are too accessible and popular to really be quiet luxury.

The richest old fart clients at a wealth manager i used to work at would pull up in a full banana republic or nautica fit and the only piece worth something would be their 100k watch.

Acne studios and ami both have meh quality. Mostly just trendy stuffs
I consider current & well made menswear brands to be yyph, cdg, lemaire, lp, gbs, hermes, bode, loewe, marni, real mccoys, kapital (rip maybe), visvim
Reality is designer quality has been decreasing since the early 00s

Fast fashion brought on a big paradox. Peoppe who cared about garment quality were penny pinchers, but penny pinchers would never spend 200+ dollars on a sweater, when costco has okay ones for 15

>There is no logical reason to buy brands like these
what you're supposed to do is pick out the pieces that are unique and actually good and ignore the rest. I agree they're bad logo flex brands but theres more to them. I remember seeing this pink silk RL purple label polo. thats the type of thing thats worth picking up. you should be able to find stuff from all of these brands that have a cool design. if you are trying to impress people, even though its an extremely shallow goal, you can impress them with your taste and curation while rocking all of these.

Way to out yourself for going to a shit uni. At an elite uni there are a lot of people from rich backgrounds (live in castles, parents are CEOs or literal royalty). Some of these people study STEM, mostly to go into consulting or IB afterwards because STEM degrees are more valued than humanities. They're a lot more sporty than your typical comic book loving autist

Yeah, I agree on those and I'd add Margaret Howell. Their Japanese and Western products are fairly different stylistically but both are good. Good construction, great fabrics, extremely understated and wearable designs. I think the brand is mostly ignored by the west because they don't do any experimental attention grabbing designs to drum up hype and generally opt out of the whole luxury fashion game despite being a luxury brand.

It's the frugal boomer entrepreneurs who don't like to waste a penny or just like the humble lifestyle.
People like Ingvar Kamprad, founder of IKEA. Hetty Green aka the witch of wall street.
