There's way more hens than roosters. I'll see occasional fights, but they rarely if ever kill each other. We did two big hatch outs for green, blue, and white eggs, so most of the roosters grew up with each other. We've sold off a bunch of the roosters to a Mexican witch doctor for ritual sacrifice as well. They eat them after so I'm okay with it.

Eggs that are legitimately from pastured chickens on small farms are absolutely worth paying a premium for. Every nasty thing sweatshop chickens are exposed to, every contaminant in their environment, all the soybeans and shit they're fed, it all gets concentrated in their eggs.

Chickens are supposed to be running around outside eating bugs and the nutritional differences between truly pastured eggs and sweatshop eggs are massive.
