strictly speaking we dont know if anything that went extinct roughly post 1mya in the old world could be natural because its hard to say if some extinct species of homo or even us did some stupid shit that resulting in an extinction. I could see Thylacines being carried to term by devils or kangaroos and woolly mammoths despite pop culture depictions were around Indian elephant sized, and a practical upshot of cloning something like a mammoth is it proves that cloning already endangered animals may be a viable way to save some the most endangered animals.

Mammoths don't matter. The Great Eastern Forest will never return until we restore the Passenger Pigeon. And we will need hundreds, if not thousands, of them just to have a breeding population as they were Gregarious. It is the single biggest loss to American ecology and it is pointless to bring back anything else until this foundation is rebuilt.
